Setting up Vivado on an Amazon EC2 Instance – Part 3

In this third part of the series we will cover:

  • installing the Window managers (Gnome)
  • configuring VNC
  • achieving better resolutions for headless operation with a dummy VGA driver,
  • creating persistent cloud storage for the binaries,
  • downloading and installing Vivado,
  • testing the install for creating a small Vivado project
  • fixing the Host ID (it comes up NULL on the cloud) to allow proper license management

KDE

KDE cannot currently be installed on Ubuntu 16.04 for headless operation due to a silly bug on a plasma applet (weather). I hope this gets fixed soon.
